Brazil Institute

INTRODUCTION

The King's Brazil Institute, founded in 2008, provides a focal point for Brazil-related activities across a range of academic disciplines. Promoting an understanding of Brazil and developing the profile of Brazilian Studies at the university level in the UK, the Institute coordinates and develops Brazil-related research capabilities and Brazil-focused programmes of study at King's, while also building links with Brazilian organizations in education, the cultural and creative sectors, business and government. Through these activities, and as part of the College's broader internationalisation strategy, the Institute aims to contribute to a growing interdisciplinary interest in Brazil among both students and academics at King's. The Institute will launch its first taught graduate programme, the MA Brazil in Global Perspective, and a new PhD in Brazilian Studies Research in September 2011.

FACILITIES

The Institute is based at the College's Strand Campus, in the heart of central London. The College’s Maughan Library, the British Library, and the diverse cultural venues of London make the city a resource centre for Brazilian Studies which is unparalleled in Europe.

FUNDING

The Brazil Institute offers its own PhD studentship. Details of this, and information on other funding opportunities from King's College London and external organisations, can be found in the graduate funding database at http://www.kcl.ac.uk/graduate/funding/database.
