The study of German, the most widely spoken first language within Europe, explores a language and a culture that are in every sense at the centre of Europe. The German-speaking countries have made a major contribution to European culture and civilization, having produced some of its greatest writers, artists, musicians, philosophers, scientists and scholars.

Whichever of our degrees you choose, you will have the opportunity to attain a high level of proficiency in speaking, writing and reading the German language, whilst developing and expanding your knowledge and critical understanding of German culture and society. You will be taught by academics engaged in leading edge research who are infectiously enthusiastic about their research areas.
