Department of Physiotherapy

INTRODUCTION
King’s offers students the opportunity to undertake graduate study within a research-intensive environment that benefits from partnership with major London teaching hospitals and Primary Care Trusts. As a result, our students are offered excellent learning experiences in both College and practice settings, becoming scientifically oriented practitioners who make decisions that are client-centred, collaborative and informed by the latest research evidence. We also encourage our students to develop a reflective approach to their academic and practice-based learning experiences.

The Department of Physiotherapy at King’s has a strong research profile. Physiotherapy research at King’s is largely pursued through research groups within the Division of Health & Social Care which has gained the highest research rating in the UK for physiotherapy in all the Research Assessment Exercises undertaken so far.

Our students enjoy teaching by the 17 members of Department staff and also from experts drawn from other biomedical and social sciences departments across the university and beyond. Teaching within the Department of Physiotherapy has been ‘highly commended’ in the 2005 NHS Quality Assurance Agency major review of King’s professional healthcare programmes and was ranked highest for teaching quality by NHS London in the 2009/10 review of physiotherapy courses at London universities.

FACILITIES
Our modern, well-funded laboratories cater for the full range of research on offer. Latest figures show that King’s is the top funded university by the MRC; we also attract significant funding from the Wellcome Trust, Research Councils and our industrial partners. As a large multi-faculty university, we have excellent social and sporting facilities, but a key attraction is our central London location. Our three campuses along the River Thames are located in the cultural and social heart of the capital and offer our students the opportunity to explore art galleries, theatres, museums, markets, restaurants and cafés.
