Distance Learning

| Admissions status: Open
PURPOSE
To enable UK and overseas dental practitioners to enhance their clinical skills. To obtain an academic qualification which will be a platform for clinical or academic professional development.

DESCRIPTION
The programme aims to provide advanced knowledge of restorative dentistry techniques and improve clinical skills of those in primary dental care settings. There is also a module on practice management and personal development to assist in the setting up and running of a successful practice, including staff management, compliance with regulations and financial issues.

The mode of delivery of Distance Learning, which combines online and face-to-face components, enables dentists to remain in dental practice while training, ensuring no loss of income or work experience and establishes a dental practice using skills learnt on the programme. The course has been designed to provide theory, support and discussion groups by online training using a dedicated virtual learning environment, to provide access to content wherever students are in the world.

The Unit of Distance Learning consists of a team of highly experienced administrative and support staff dedicated to providing support to students. Combined with the use of a comprehensive online educational delivery system, this allows students to continually interact with staff and colleagues, to further enhance their learning experience.

Partial completion or early exit may result in the award of a Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma.

Intensive Face-to-Face Course

To supplement your online teaching you will also receive hands-on clinical training at our training centres in the UK. Designated tutors are present to offer expert guidance to students on complex dental procedures. There are two compulsory face-to-face courses of nine or ten days, in years one and two respectively.

Part of your training will take place at LonDEC, a recently opened post-graduate teaching facility, providing you with some of the finest hands-on dental teaching facilities available in the UK and Europe.
