Computing & Internet Systems MSc

I chose King's based on its reputation as one of the most prestigious universities in the world with excellent quality of teaching and academic links to the industry in my specific subject. Studying at King's allowed me to be at the heart of one of the major world cities with great employment opportunities. The Department of Informatics has a strong relationship with organisations who offer graduate placements exclusively to KCL students, including opportunities abroad.

I am funding my studies independently based on part-time work in my undergraduate degree and summer holidays. I would recommend studying at King's based on the quality of teaching, the lively social atmosphere on campus and the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected staff in the computing industry.

Campus facilities are excellent, there are many cafés including the student union bar with breathtaking panoramic views of London's Southbank. The campus is in the heart of the city with access to many restaurants, theatres and landmarks. Part-time work is definitely available and the careers service will be able to provide assistance with looking for work. As a student there are also discounts available in many shops and this allows your money to go further.

Computing & Internet Systems MSc

The MSc in Computing and Internet Systems includes a wide range of topics which together provide students with a comprehensive understanding of and capability for developing internet applications and solving internet-based computational problems.

The modules available to students on the programme range from detailed understanding of core internet technologies, engineering issues for applications deployed on the internet and other distributed systems, design of algorithms for parallel and distributed execution, to sophisticated AI-based interaction on the internet, distributed data storage, cryptography and security issues, multimedia and search, and more. Students can choose from the options available and tailor their studies to their interests.

My own research and teaching at King's covers ideas around distributed, internet-based systems and artificial intelligence. In my research, I am particularly interested in applying techniques to enable disparate individuals, companies or other organisations to collaborate reliably. This includes assessing the reliability of data produced through processes involving multiple applications or organisations, and developing engineering processes for systems to aid research and collaboration in open, dynamic environments. My work is driven through collaborations with academic and industrial organisations around the world, and these cutting edge ideas feed into the projects I conduct with both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
