PURPOSE
For Mathematics graduates. Provides basic training for a research degree.
DESCRIPTION
Our programme consists of a wide range of courses and a project. The coursework is organised on a module system. A supervisor assists each student in choosing modules, taking a majority from the two main blocks of Pure Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. You may also choose certain courses from the Financial Mathematics programme.
Pure Mathematics:
- Metric & Banach Spaces
- Fourier Analysis
- Operator Theory
- Lie Groups & Lie Algebras
- Modular Forms
- Algebraic Geometry.
Theoretical Physics:
- Quantum Mechanics II
- Quantum Field Theory
- String Theory & Branes
- Supersymmetry
- Advanced General Relativity.
You may also take up to two modules from a wide range of undergraduate topics, eg Real Analysis II; Complex Analysis; Galois Theory; Topology; Special Relativity & Electromagnetism; Linear Control Theory.
You may also take courses at other London colleges subject to approval.
