PURPOSE
The programme aims to provide the newest evidence based knowledge in endodontology and to enable the participants to successfully integrate endodontic therapy with the other aspects of restorative dentistry and to learn research methodology.

DESCRIPTION

Offered in response to unprecedented demand for endodontically trained professionals from within the UK and abroad, this unique and comprehensive programme is aimed at dentists who would like to enhance their existing abilities while acquiring advanced and up-to-date skills which will enable them to successfully and confidently manage more complex and demanding endodontic cases.

This is a three year programme leading to an MSc in Endodontics. The curriculum includes the scientific basis of endodontology; diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with complex endodontic problems, clinical treatment of patients with endodontic and other restorative problems and learning research methodology to enable completion of a research project.

The mode of delivery is Distance Learning, which combines online and face-to-face components, enables practitioners to remain in clinical practice while training. This ensures no loss of income or work experience and establishes practice using skills learned on the programme. The course has been designed to provide theory, support and discussion groups by online training using a dedicated virtual learning environment to provide access to content wherever students are in the world.

The Unit of Distance Learning consists of a team of highly experienced administrative and support staff dedicated to providing support to students. Combined with the use of a comprehensive online educational delivery system, this allows students to continually interact with staff and colleagues, thus enhancing their learning experience.

To further facilitate access and understanding, the content is structured in modules, and will be delivered mainly via the recognized and user-friendly multi media structure of King's College London, allowing the participants the flexibility of studying in their own time, with minimal disruption to their usual routines whilst enjoying the same level of educational support provided in our conventional in-house courses.

Partial completion or early exit may result in the award of a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma.

Intensive Face-to-Face Course

The course will feature yearly, short duration, intensive face-to-face internships in London when the participants will receive hands-on clinical training under expert supervision. LonDEC, the recently opened post-graduate teaching centre, provides delegates with some of the finest state of the art dental teaching facilities available in the UK and Europe.

FORMAT AND ASSESSMENT
This Masters programme is assessed through a combination of assignments, written examinations, clinical case presentations and a dissertation. In the first two years, most modules are assessed by a combination of 60 per cent written examination and 40 per cent written assignments. For each module, you must complete a self-assessment exercise, a formative essay and a final summative essay, to be entered into the end of year written examinations. During the course, clinical work is also undertaken which is assessed by submission of clinical case presentations. In the final year, you will be allocated a supervisor and undertake a dissertation. If you fail an assessment element at the first sitting, you will be permitted one further attempt. Exams can be taken in London or, for overseas students, at centres in the student's country of residence. Overseas examinations incur an additional fee payable to the Examinations Office. Further details of overseas exam arrangements and applicable fees can be viewed at: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/about/structure/admin/acservices/examinations/students/sea/alternative You can view more detailed information about modules here: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/dentistry/about/centres/flexilearning/distance/ENDOStructure.aspx

FUNDING
Fees have undergone a simplification process aimed at providing a total price for a whole year’s tuition. In previous years, face-to-face course fees were charged in addition to annual tuition fees, which caused confusion. The new fee covers all tuition fees, including face-to-face fees. Students will still need to fund accommodation, travel and meals for their face-to-face courses. We think this provide a clearer picture of the final cost of the programme and will allow students to plan accordingly. Self-funded. See the King's Student Funding Office website for any available funding opportunities. http://www.kcl.ac.uk/about/structure/admin/acservices/funding

Aesthetic Dentistry MSc
I began my clinical career at King's as it provided me with a solid foundation in dentistry. The quality of teaching was to such a high standard that I believed it was only natural for me to seek further postgraduate education at this institution.

I chose the MSc Aesthetic Dentistry programme as it would allow me to increase my range of clinical ability, to be able to correctly diagnose aesthetic problems and be able to formulate treatment plans suitable for each patient's requirements. Satisfying patients with the most ethical aesthetic treatment modalities is something to be proud of.

The greatest advantage of this course is that I can apply lessons learnt to clinical practice whilst the programme is ongoing. In this way any difficulties encountered can be discussed and solutions created. Distance learning is the future!

Studying at home allows you to work at your own pace thus fitting education into a busy lifestyle. I am thoroughly enjoying the course. Meeting dentists from all around the world and being educated by some of the world's leading aesthetic dentists is an honour. I feel privileged to be on such an amazing course which fulfils my career ambitions.
