PURPOSE
For qualified dentists wanting to extend their knowledge and clinical practice in endodontology. The programme has formal recognition for part of UK specialist training. To provide extensive contemporary knowledge in endodontology, to attain clinical proficiency in endodontics to recognised specialist level, to relate endodontic care to other aspects of restorative dentistry, and to learn research methodology.

DESCRIPTION
There are three strands to the programme: the scientific basis of endodontology; diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with advanced endodontic problems, clinical treatment of patients with endodontic and other restorative problems (these two run throughout the programme) and; learning research methodology to enable completion of a research project. Subjects include the pathology of apical periodontitis and strategies to manage it effectively.

The programme offers a dynamic interaction with other graduate students specialising in prosthodontics, implantology and periodontology, the development of skills in understanding and analysing the research base for clinical care. There is the opportunitiy for UK specialist training and to sit a final conjoint membership examination with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

EXTRA PROGRAMME INFORMATION
As we are seeking to identify your suitability for this clinical environment, we expect our interviewees to adopt the dress code required of clinical dental students at King's. Further information will be given should you choose to apply. Entry to the programme is strictly dependent upon occupational health clearance that you are able to conduct exposure prone procedures (EPPs) before you start clinical work. This will assess your hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C antibody status, HIV and TB status following the completion of a health questionnaire and a further health check before or at enrolment. If offered a place on the course, overseas students are advised to be tested locally and send the results of these checks with the questionnaire, prior to a separate full test in the UK at the College's Occupational Health Department before the term begins. All offers of a place on a programme are made subject to a satisfactory criminal conviction disclosure. If you are from overseas or have never lived in the UK before, you should contact the relevant authorities in your home country to arrange for the equivalent check to be conducted and/or a certificate of good conduct to be issued.

Student profiles

Endodontology MClinDent
I chose to study at King's as it was the first to establish the Endodontic specialisation programme. The department has grown from strength to strength through the years and has a great reputation for producing dental specialists who are equipped with excellent clinical skills as well as a solid foundation in research.
I am thrilled to be able to rub shoulders with the foremost experts in the field and learn from very experienced, yet approachable consultants who constantly encourage me to think 'out of the box' and find new ways to solve clinical problems.
We are also encouraged to give feedback and our opinions are taken into consideration in the process of improving the quality of treatment and patient care. The support system is phenomenal and I've really enjoyed the team spirit and camaraderie which exists among the graduates.
Living in London has been especially exciting as you really can't find a better place to experience the rich melting pot of cultures, enjoy the entertainment, museums, shopping etc. It really makes you feel alive! I would encourage anyone to seize the opportunity to study at King's as you will be thrust into a world of wonderful experiences, both academic and social!
I feel very lucky to have been awarded a full scholarship to study here and I hope to return to Malaysia to join the academic staff and hopefully play a role in producing well-rounded, excellent dentists from our local universities.
