DESCRIPTION
This postgraduate nursing programme is designed for graduates from other disciplines who wish to gain professional registration in Adult, Children's or Mental Health Nursing. The programme runs over two years.
The programme focuses on quality care, cutting edge clinical skills and is designed to be both research intensive and research informed. You will learn the pivotal roles of nurse and client, while developing your nursing skills and building your knowledge of professional and ethical practice. This innovative programme ensures our students meet the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Subjects such as nursing bioscience, professional practice, research, evidence-based practice, policy and clinical leadership, as well as adult, children's or mental health nursing are studied. The programme is divided between theoretical modules and clinical practice, with blocks of time spent in clinical placement.
You will have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of healthcare settings. Opportunities for national and international electives are also offered.
EXTRA PROGRAMME INFORMATION
All students on nursing programmes are required to undertake an enhanced CRB check and all must give consent to this. Completed CRB checks must be received prior to the student undertaking any clinical placement. All students attend Occupational Health (OH) on entry the programme. All applicants are required to make an APEL claim. Pre-registration nursing programmes should normally be no less than three years. Student profiles
Nursing with registration (graduate entry) PG DipI did an undergraduate degree in archaeology and ancient history but when I finished it I had little desire to work in that field. I thought about a career in healthcare after working as a health care assistant on a busy ward. The fact that the PG Dip is a two year course is a major incentive when you already have a degree. I've made some great friends, and its great studying with other students of a similar age and mindset.
The School has been great for supporting students both on the ward and in the classroom, which is always needed on any nursing courses. I love the location of the campus...just a couple of minutes walk to the Thames for some inspirational views of London! A great way to spend a break from the library!
Nursing with registration (graduate entry) PG DipI wanted to go to a university that really put time into their students – and I most certainly have not been let down.
The course is intense, but is perfect for anybody who is prepared to work very hard and obtain their qualification quicker. The opportunity to undertake an elective and work abroad for a month as part of our course was also a huge attraction. Have only 20 people in our class meant learning in an informal and relaxed environment, with lectures well designed to help support us in practice.
Nursing with registration (graduate entry) PG Dip
The decision to come to Kings as a postgraduate student, five years after my first degree, was not an easy one. However, the rewards of studying nursing at Kings, an institution that encourages independent thinking, evidence-based decision making and cutting-edge research, were just too good to pass up. The mental health PGDip gives you the chance to qualify in two years and get some of the best clinical and academic experience available. Kings have a unique philosophy that links clinical practice with academic research, making the course dynamic, challenging and relevant, but it's not all books and bedpans! Staff and other students are a great source of support and I've met some fantastic, inspiring people on this course.
