Post-Soviet Space

DESCRIPTION

Although nearly two decades have passed since the collapse of the USSR, its legacy is still helping to shape security within, and relations between, these states, as well as their relations with other states in Europe, Asia and North America. At the same time, new security challenges have emerged in the region, including energy politics; insurgency; transnational organised crime; and the domestic, regional, and geopolitical impact of the "colour revolutions". Changing relationships with the USA, China, as well as with institutions such as the European Union and NATO, are shaping the security agendas of states in the region and beyond.

The Post-Soviet Space Research Group in the Department of War Studies brings together researchers with interests in security, foreign policy making, and international politics across the states of the former Soviet Union. It aims to provide a forum for discussion between researchers with a wide variety of research interests in this area, working across a range of disciplines. It provides a framework for research activities, workshops and seminars, and contributes to research training and professional development for postgraduate students in both research and taught programmes.
