PERSONAL STATEMENT & SUPPORTING INFORMATION
Please provide your reasons for choosing your proposed PhD project and any other additional information in support of your application.
Studentships funded by external funding agencies such as the British Heart Foundation (BHF), the Wellcome Trust or research councils (eg MRC) are usually advertised in New Scientist/Nature when available. The four-year PhD programme funded by the BHF, with an annual intake of four students, is advertised annually on findaphd.com and Nature online. The first year of this studentship is composed of an MRes in Cardiovascular Sciences. The division has also commenced an interdisciplinary three-year PhD scheme as part of the BHF Centre of Research Excellence. These highly competitive studentships provide a stipend and the payment of tuition fees at the home/EU rate for qualifying students. From time to time, divisional investigators may be in a position to take on additional students.
Named studentships will have a closing date stipulated on the advertisement. Self-funded students should apply at least six months before the proposed starting date, which now must be in October, January, April, or July only.
No set number, dependent upon funding from external bodies.
