RESEARCH PROFILE
Research income: Since January 2005, the CTR has attracted over £3 million in research funding; its current research funding support is £1.2 million. Moreover, since 2001, the CTR has received £5.4 million in research funding, and has participated, among others, in 9 EU-funded projects and 7 EPSRC-funded projects.
Current staff: The CTR currently has 4 academic members, 3 RAs, two RFs (including one Marie Curie Fellow), and 22 PhD students. This gives a ratio of approximately 5 PhD students and just over one RA or RF for each academic member. The CTR has successfully graduated 46 PhD students since 2001.
Recent publications: The CTR has an excellent publications record: its papers have been cited more than 3,000 times. Since 2001 it has published over 350 papers, more than 120 of which are journal papers; it has published 3 books, 18 book chapters, and has filed over 20 patents in this time. The CTR’s publications in the last five years alone have already been cited more than 1,000 times, and the average number of citations per paper published by the CTR is more than 4.5. These statistics put the CTR in a select band of top groups in the UK undertaking wireless communications research.
Current research projects: In 1996, the CTR was one of four selected founding academic members of the “Virtual Centre of Excellence in Mobile and Personal Communications (Mobile VCE)”, a prestigious venture between industry and academia. Since then, the CTR has remained as a major contributor to Mobile VCE. In 2008, the CTR was selected as one of the four research groups, among the 56 Universities that applied, to participate in the “Green Radio” work area of Mobile VCE’s Research Programme.
