Staff interests associated with the research programme and its research groups
Our internationally renowned Centre strives to focus research to meet perceived future needs for the next five years and beyond. Currently, it is oriented towards future mobile personal communications with emphasis on the wireless multimedia networks and applications, and mobile Internet. Our Centre is a full University member of the Virtual Centre of Excellence in Mobile Communications (Mobile VCE).
The CTR provides opportunities for research in Telecommunications with a particular emphasis on mobile and personal communication techniques and networks, and mobile Internet. The CTR’s research was initially concerned with architectures and protocols for wireless ATM networks, but quickly evolved towards work on protocols, mechanisms, architectures, and applications for IP-based broadband radio access networks. Some specific current research topics of the CTR include Cognitive Radio and Networks, Advanced Radio Access Techniques and Applications, Protocol Stack Reconfigurability, Energy-efficient Wireless Networking, the Future Internet, Audio and Speech Technologies, and Biomedical Signal Processing.
Our members regularly publish papers in prestigious journals and at major international conferences. Our Centre is supported by grants from EPSRC, industry and Mobile VCE.
