Hispanic Studies with English with a year abroad BA

I enjoy the wide breadth of options that my course gives me in terms of area interests. I quite enjoy the Literature side of the degree, so I am able to choose Literature modules and tailor my degree according to what I enjoy. My teachers have definitely been an important part of my degree, they are all dedicated and always happy to help.

I chose King's primarily because I liked the modules that the Spanish Department were offering. Also, the environment was very student friendly and energetic - there is always something to do for everyone! My department in particular is quite small, so you get to know everyone studying in the same department.

It is great that King's is so central to London as well because there are endless opportunities and it is impossible to get bored. The best part of my experience at King's has to be my year abroad. As a part of my degree, I was able to spend a year studying in a university at Spain. I went to the south of Spain, and was able to not only have an amazing time, but learn some of the most valuable skills that I will carry on to the rest of my life. It was also a great opportunity to meet lots of new people, travel and experience things that are not necessarily at your reach living at home.

I am currently part of the Widening Participation Student Ambassador Scheme, whose main focus at the moment is K+, a scheme run for year 12 and 13 students. It is great being part of WP because as a Student Ambassador, they do give you a lot of responsibility and you carry out a lot of roles that are crucial to the actual running of K+. I am certain that I will leave King's with a lot of useful skills that I can use in the world of work.

'I chose King's because of its brilliant reputation and central London location, and it has lived up to my expectations. The tutors are really knowledgeable and often very well published, and nothing can compare to being a student in London; there is always so much going on!

Within King's, I am involved in the dance society, and I run a charity called TinTin, which is part of SIFE and is working to provide waterproof roofs made from recycled drink cans to people living in cardboard houses in rubbish dumps in the Philippines. I also work as a Student Ambassador, which is the ideal student job because it is flexible and I get paid for the time I put in! The Careers Service has been incredibly useful in helping me to explore my options for the future, and the skills I am learning from my course will undoubtedly help me to achieve success in either of these areas.

I will be spending my third year in Spain or South America to improve my Spanish and I am sure that this is going to be a fantastic experience!'
