13 May Troops mental health stable
A major new study led by scientists at the Academic Centre for Defence Mental Health and Institute of Psychiatry at King's has found that overall mental disorders among UK military personnel were stable betwen 2003 and 2009; but deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan increases troops risk of alcohol misuse.
 
13 May Spending on the police up by 50 percent
Spending on the police in England and Wales grew by nearly 50 per cent between 1999 and 2009, according to a new report published today (13 May) by the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies.

11 May Toxic protein plays key role in heart disease
Scientists at King’s have found that accelerated ageing in arteries plays a key role in the development of heart disease. Their research published in the journal Circulation has shown that a toxic protein accumulates in our arteries as we get older, and that lifestyle factors might make this happen faster.
 
10 May Achieving water security worldwide
The London Water Research Group hosted its fifth international workshop on Hydro­Hegemony over the weekend (8-9 May). This year, the workshop entitled 'Water Security: Competing Discourses', focused on issues of water security, farmland investment in Africa and new trends in the water sector.

Researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP), King’s College London and colleagues from Duke University, US, have found that some children are having hallucinations and delusions which might be the early signs of psychosis.

New research led by the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP), King’s College London, which appeared in April's Biological Psychiatry, suggests that it could be possible to control binge eating by stimulating the brain.
 
04 May FEND Chair of Clinical Diabetes Nursing
Professor Angus Forbes from the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King's has been appointed as the Federation of European Nurses in Diabetes (FEND) Chair in Clinical Diabetes Nursing. The position is a collaboration between FEND, King’s and the Diabetes Centre at King’s College Hospital (KCH).
