Credit transfer
Students studying abroad at a partner university will submit assessment to the host instituion, be marked for it, and return to King's with a transcript showing their marks.
As partner universities use a range of different marking schemes, these marks will then be converted back into UK-style grades and added to student records.
The modules below are used to record this process, which is known as Credit Transfer. They will be added to student OneSpace records once the new academic year is underway. Students should check their OneSpace record if they are unsure which module(s) form part of their registration.
Students from the Modern Language departments not studying at a partner institution during the year abroad can find details of alternative assessment towards the bottom of this page.

Module choice information
Modern Language department students are advised to take a minimum of 22 ECTS* of transferrable credit each semester. King’s will choose your best marks for each semester to a total value of 15 ECTS* per semester to count towards your final mark.
From 2011/12, Modern Language department students must take a minimum of 22 ECTS, with the exception of Portuguese students.
Non-Modern Language department students are advised that they must take a full semester's courseload each semester. If you are unsure of what constitutes a full courseload, please contact the Study Abroad Office.
Marks will be converted using the approved Translation Schemes, which can be found at the bottom of this page.
All students must complete a Learning Agreement / Study Plan. These will be used to officially record the modules being studied. The Study Abroad Office will request the return of these in order to have them signed-off by your departmental Study Abroad Tutor here at King's.

Regulations for module choice
Modules that you plan to include in your credit transfer provision must:
Modern Language department students on a compulsory year or semester abroad may not:
Contact the Study Abroad Tutor in your department to have your module choices validated if you are unsure whether or not they are suitable for credit transfer.
- relate to your degree programme at King's
- be of a comparable standard to your year of study at King's, i.e. first year, introductory or otherwise low-level modules cannot form part of your credit transfer provision.
Modern Language department students on a compulsory year or semester abroad may not:
- transfer credits for modules taught and examined in languages other than the official language(s) of their host country.
- transfer more than 7.5 ECTS for language learning (including grammar classes and translation classes). Linguistics and phonetics classes are not categorised as language classes for the purposes of credit transfer.
- from 2011/12, this regulation is being amended to 50%, rather than 7.5 ECTS, with the exception of Portuguese students.
- transfer back modules that relate to the other side of their degree programme without the permission of the Study Abroad Tutor in their department. For example, French and Classics students may only include Classics modules in their credit transfer provision with prior permission.
Contact the Study Abroad Tutor in your department to have your module choices validated if you are unsure whether or not they are suitable for credit transfer.
