MoU with Adelaide for dental education
Professor Nairn Wilson as Dean of King’s College London Dental Institute was proud to be able to sign an MoU on 9 November with Professor Johann de Vries, Dean of the School of Dentistry, from the University of Adelaide and Visiting Professor to King’s.Adelaide has a long and distinguished history of leading innovation in teaching and research and is a centre of excellence providing the best oral health for all Australians. Their guiding principles mirror those of the King’s mission in serving society.
In research, Adelaide’s Centre for Orofacial Research and Learning (CORAL) is an important multi-disciplinary centre bringing together Australian basic scientists, clinicians and translational researchers in oral health and disease. In dental education, Adelaide and King’s are collaborating through IVIDENT (International Virtual Dental School) to forge the future of global dental education.
Adelaide have already had some considerable success in their Health Education Development and Innovation (HEDI) Programme which spearheaded the way to the first globally shared curriculum between two diverse Dental Schools, 11,000 km apart - Adelaide and the University of Sharjah, College of Dentistry in the United Arab Emirates.
Problem based and evidence based learning are at the core of Adelaides’s educational research portfolio. In the global arena of dental educational challenges, facing the future together between the largest dental school in Europe and a leading school in Australasia will be made much more possible by the signing of the MoU.
