GDP Centre award prizes for excellence
The Maurice Wohl General Dental Practice (GDP) Centre, under the directorship of Dr Brian Davies, recently celebrated another year’s success by awarding prizes for excellence to four final year students. A prize giving took place at The Centre on 19 May.Maurice Wohl General Dental Practice Centre prizes are awarded to students who fulfil the highest standards in all aspects of the Centre’s teaching including treatment planning and supporting clinical proficiencies, personal inter-relationship skills with staff and patients and effective team facilitation.
The Dean and Head of School, Professor Nairn Wilson together with Professor Stephen Dunne praised the work of the GDP Centre in team care teaching and paid tribute to the students’ achievements and hard work. W&H Ltd and Henry Schein Ltd kindly sponsored the event and very generously presented gifts and certificates to the winning students.
The Maurice Wohl GDP Centre is part of the Department of Primary Care Dentistry at the Dental Institute. Final year students work in an adult general practice environment in order to develop further their clinical acumen and to learn more about team leading skills and other aspects of successful practice management. Students have a caseload of patients and work in conjunction with both qualified and trainee dental nurses in each of the Centre’s ten surgeries. Day to day teaching takes place under the close supervision of experienced dental practitioners.
The prize winners were Mr Mark O’HARA (GDP Prize Winner), Miss Leila Akhlaghi (Certificate of Merit), Miss Angela Northfield (Certificate of Merit), and Mr Puneet Nagpal (Certificate of Merit). Separate awards were made to the winners of the Practice Leaflet Competition – Miss Leyli Bassiri, Miss Kimya Ghadyani, Mr Mark O’Hara, Mr Nikesh Patel, Miss Hanel Kirit Patel, Mr Sanjay Sareen, Mr Sunny Sareen, and Miss Janine Twite.
