Dental Hygiene and Therapy Class of 2009
The splendid surroundings of Southwark Cathedral on 2 July saw a successful end to two-and-a half years of hard work as the Class of 2009 graduated from King’s School of Dental Hygiene and Therapy. The diplomats in Dental Hygiene and Therapy are the last to graduate from King's under existing arrangements. For the third year in a row, all the therapists were able to graduate together, watched by proud families, colleagues and staff, along with the 180 graduating dentists and their entourages who shared their day of celebration.
Speeches from the Dean of the Dental Institute, Professor Nairn Wilson, and the Principal, Professor Rick Trainor, paid tribute to the achievements of the students. Nine received Diplomas with Merit and four were awarded Diplomas with Distinction.
Dr Jennifer Hughes, Director of Adult Therapy at King’s School of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, said ‘The diplomats looked the part in their King’s gowns complete with pink sash. Even the male recipients had managed to colour-coordinate to good effect. I am very proud of their achievement and wish them all well for their future careers.’
Elizabeth May, one of the graduating therapists, said: ‘Studying at King's has been an excellent opportunity, the facilities are up to date and the staff are amazing. It is a shame the course will no longer be run by King’s College London. I look forward to a career working in both the NHS and private practice. I hope to return to King's in the future to teach hygiene therapy students.’
The graduation ceremony was an occasion for celebration and an opportunity to give credit to the exceptionally high standards required by the School of Hygiene and Therapy, and maintained by King’s alumni throughout the UK.
