Strengthening flexible learning in India

The Dean and the Institute’s flexible learning team for the MClinDent in Prosthodontics, led by Dr Brian Millar, have recently returned from the fourth annual programme of intensive instruction and related activities at the SDM College of Dental Sciences, Dharwad, India.The highly successful visit to India’s only 5* dental college provided opportunity to recognise the unswerving support of the President of the SDM College of Medical and Dental Sciences, Dr D. Veerendra Heggade for the developing collaboration between the SDM College of Dental Sciences and King’s College London Dental Institute (KCLDI) and for the Dean and Head of KCLDI, Professor Nairn Wilson to formally congratulate Professor Bhasker Rao, Dean of the SDM College of Dental Sciences on his recent appointment as a Visiting Professor of KCLDI.
In addition, Professor Wilson was pleased and honoured to open the new Department of General Dentistry at the SDM College of Dental Sciences – the first department of its type in India. To assist in the development and success of this state-of-the-art department, plans are at advanced stage for the recently launched KCLDI flexible learning MSc programme in Advanced General Dental Practice to be an integral element of the programmes of instruction offered by the new department.
The rapidly expanding collaboration between the SDM College of Dental Sciences and the KCLDI, recently fuelled by the recognition of the Institute’s MClinDent in Prosthodontics by the Dental Council of India, provides a unique platform for the further internationalisation of the Institute’s programmes of flexible learning.
