6th IVIDENT Contributors' Meeting held

IVIDENT Contributors' Meeting Six international Deans, visitors real and virtual from eight countries and 80 participants attended the 6th IVIDENT Contributors' Meeting held in the new LonDEC Centre on 9 November. The three-year UK government funded enterprise, IVIDENT, is now in its last six months and heads towards a sustainable future with important partners and stakeholders from academic, industrial and allied organisations.

The new name for IVIDENT was announced by the Director, Professor Pat Reynolds at the start of proceedings. IVIDENT will become UDENTE at the end of March 2010. This is the Italian word for ‘hearing’ which fits well with the democratisation of learning, but as an acronym also means ‘Universal Dental E-Learning’.

IVIDENT Contributors' Meeting
The day began with the IVIDENT International Advisory Board meeting and ratification of the new brand UDENTE. Short talks then updated the delegates on the technical achievements, the e-content acquisition, student perspective and business plans. Round table groups discussed marketing, review of project processes, business plans, support issues and the e-shop.

In the afternoon, using the Skills Room, 14 show and tell stations demonstrated the breadth and depth of achievements within and related to IVIDENT. These included a walk through the technical environment  whether mediated by a ‘computer cloud’ or through ‘Project Wonderland’, copyright discussions, e-content demonstrations, the University of Adelaide rich multimedia resources, Dental Companion website, Dental Nursing and Distance learning courses, haptics and more. The Deans rounded off the day with a ‘View from the Top’.

The launch of UDENTE will officially be at the 7th Contributors’ meeting at the University of Brescia, 13-16 May 2010.
