Dr Wouter Leyssen wins prestigious research award

Dr Wouter Leyssen Dr Wouter Leyssen was awarded the prestigious British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry (BSSPD) 2009 research award at the Society’s recent annual conference in York. Wouter is currently studying for the College’s MSc in Prosthetic Dentistry - the only graduate programme in the UK to specialise in removable prosthodontics. This is the second time in three years that a student on the programme has been awarded the prize.
Wouter said: ‘Being only six months into my MSc programme in Prosthetic Dentistry this would not have been possible without the support from the supervisors of my research project, Dr Gallagher (Oral Health Services Research) and Dr Radford. The staff who teach on the MSc programme are very dedicated and get the best out of each student. The whole team in prosthodontics is the driving force behind the achievements of the master’s students. Continuous feedback and enthusiasm makes us realise that the impossible, is possible!’

Wouter is going to use the award to support his travel costs in interviewing both recently registered clinical dental technicians (CDTs) and vocational trainees around the country on their views of the role and future roles of CDTs in the provision of dental care in the UK.
