First DPMG students graduate

The DPMG students at the reception. It was with great pleasure the Dental Institute was able to celebrate recently the first ever graduation of students who had undertaken a three-year programme to study dentistry.

Students on the Dentistry Entry Programme for Medical Graduates (DPMG) had all previously studied medicine and undertook a bespoke programme at King’s College London to accelerate their progress into training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, or oral medicine / oral pathology. This was a small cohort of seven students, the numbers dictated by funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England rather than applications.
The students participated in the Graduation Ceremony at Southwark Cathedral and also attended a reception held in their honour the previous evening at the Dental Institute. The reception was a very pleasant occasion for students and their guests, and was attended by teachers and staff from both the Dental Institute and the wider context of King’s College London.

King’s College London is the only dental school in the UK to have a programme such as this and the success of the students marks another milestone in the many programmes offered at King’s to study dentistry: King’s now graduating students on five-year, four-year and three-year programmes for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree.
