Telesymposium hosted with North Carolina

Professor John Williams, the Dean of the Dental School in North Carolina On 31 March, a joint telesymposium was organised between the University of North Carolina and King’s College London with the purpose of developing links and collaboration between both institutions by exploring research areas and themes.

Research staff and PhD students from the Dental Institute attended the event, which was held in the Tower Lecture Theatre on Guy’s Campus.
The telesymposium began with an introduction and welcome by the Director of External Strategy of King’s Health Schools, Professor Stephen Challacombe, the Dean of the Dental Institute, Professor Nairn Wilson, and the Dean of the Dental School in North Carolina, Professor John Williams.

Both institutions then gave an overview of their research and structure, followed by a series of talks by various members of staff on topics, including tissue engineering, HIV and oncology, genetics and development biology, periodontology, salivary research and neurology.

Hosted by Professor Stephen Challacombe and Professor Tim Watson from King’s and Jim Beck from the University of North Carolina, the event also included discussions throughout and at the end a future agenda was decided.

This telesymposium was a first of its kind between both institutions. The event also demonstrated the international capabilities of the newly refurbished Tower Lecture Theatre.
