The Infection Research Group is a multi-disciplinary group encompassing basic research in bacterial biology and the translation of advances in basic science to benefit patients.
The Group is organised into three active Programmes in Microbiology, Cariology and Periodontology.
Microbiological interests
- bacterial genomics and proteomics
- metagenomics
- proteomics
- bacterial transporters
- cell biology of bacterial toxin targets.
Clinical research
- environmental influences on periodontal disease;
- effect of periodontitis on systemic health and;
- development of novel diagnostic and treatment methods for dental caries.
Funding sources include the BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC, NIH, the Wellcome Trust and other major charities.
Relations with industry
Close interactions exist with industry at all levels from pre-competitive collaboration, commercialisation of our own inventions and clinical and microbiological testing of products.
