Huw Walters
Huw Walters joined Calon in 2006 as Commercial Director responsible for negotiating co-production deals, rights exploitation and raising finance for the company. Calon is a production company based in Wales specialising in childrens television programmes for the international market. The company’s production credits include Superted, Fireman Sam and preschool series Hana’s Helpline which is currently airing on Channel Five.
Huw has 19 years experience of media business affairs, programme finance, co-production, sales and distribution. Prior to joining Calon Huw worked as Director of International Business at Welsh broadcaster S4C where he brokered co-production deals in every major territory and led a team exporting programmes to over 100 countries around the World. During his time at S4C he was a director of its commercial subsidiaries S4C Masnachol Cyf, S4C Rhyngwladol Cyf and S4C Digital Media Ltd. He is a graduate in Law & Industrial Relations from Cardiff University.
Ian Parkinson
Ian Parkinson has 30 years experience in broadcasting and the media. He studied journalism at the London College of Printing, and worked in commercial radio before joining the BBC in 1980. He has studied strategy and change management at INSEAD and London Business School. He worked on the Today Programme and as an editor on the launch team for Radio Five Live. In 1997, he joined Radio 1 as Managing Editor where he was part of the management team that transformed Radio 1 into a leading youth brand.
As Head of Specialist Music Programmes, he discovered and developed new talent (including Colin Murray, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Bobby and Nihal); while managing presenters like Tim Westwood, John Peel and Chris Morris. He ran the station’s award-winning Live Music and Events team, replacing the Radio 1 Roadshow with the industry-leading Big Weekend festivals. His last role at the BBC was as Head of Music Development in BBC Radio’s Interactive and New Media division. He is now a director of the consultancy Think Again Media, and works as a coach, trainer and consultant for independent production companies, leading charities, and sports organisations.
Temtsel Hao
Temtsel Hao joined the BBC World Service China in 1998 where he has been producing radio and online news and current affairs content. He travels frequently to China, covering a variety of topics relevant to those interested in China’s activities and most recently was responsible for reporting on events during the Beijing Olympics.
Temtsel obtained his Ph.D. in International Relations from the LSE, and previously attended college and worked in Beijing before coming to London. Apart from writing reports, columns and blogging on China and international affairs, Temtsel also writes on ethnic minority issues in China and media freedom.
Richard Burton
Richard Burton is one of the most well-rounded newspapermen of his generation, having worked for most of the major provincial publishers as a reporter, before being one of the youngest editors in the country at 30. He won commendations for his investigative reporting and moved to Fleet Street with the launch of Today, Britain's first full colour, direct input national. He went on to become Chief Sub-Editor of both the Sunday Mirror and spent 10 years on The Daily Telegraph back bench before going into management with women’s magazine publisher Parkhill Publishing. He rejoined The Telegraph Group where he became Editor of New Media. He is presently Managing Editor of the Jewish Chronicle.
Richard holds several visiting lectureships including the universities of Westminster, Cardiff, Kingston, Sheffield, and City and is a former media trainer at IPC and Haymarket Publishing.
