This course is available to 18 students in 2010-11. King's College London students study alongside members of the general public in mixed classes.
This course provides an in-depth examination of Tate Modern. It will look at how the institution came into being and how its range of public activities and internal operations run on a daily basis. From the initial architectural proposal and future plans for expansion to the paintings on the walls and the products in the shop, the practical aspects of running Tate Modern will be explored in the context of current debates around cultural institutions, architecture, collections, displays and audiences. The course is recommended for those involved in or intending to pursue a career in arts management. Sessions will consist of lectures, guest speakers, visits and student presentations.
