NYU's Prof Andrew Ross speaking at King's College London
Culture, Media and Creative Industries at King's College London are proud to announce that Professor Andrew Ross (NYU) will give a talk titled "Modern Convenience, Ancient Wages" on the 3 March 2011 at 6pm in the Anatomy Lecture Theatre (Room K6.29, 6th Floor, King’s Building, Strand Campus). With books like No-Collar, Fast Boat to China and Nice Work If You Can Get It, Ross has gained a reputation as one of the leading scholars on how labor has been reconfigured in our globalized, digital age. In this lecture, Ross will present some of his insightful views on the changing nature of work in the cultural and creative industries. This talk is open to the general public.

City, Culture and Society
CMCI is happy to be associated with a new academic journal that explores the intersection of culture and society in cities. CMCI’s Professor Andy Pratt is on the editorial board of the new journal, and has a paper in the first two issues of the journal.
Naked City
Prof Sharon Zukin will give a lecture at King's College London on Friday January 14 at 17.00 in S-2.08 about her recent book ‘Naked City’; there will also be a panel discussion about it and creative cities more generally. This event is part of a series celebrating the launch of MA/MSc Creative Cities at King's.
CMCI is pleased to welcome two new members of staff:Dr Paul Sweetman, Senior Lecturer in Culture, Media and Creative Industries who joins us from Southampton University, Paul has a background in the sociology of culture, with particular focus on the body and identity, fashion and consumption and visual methods. He will be managing the core course, Contested Culture: Formations, as well as teaching his option Fashion, Culture and Society this term.
Dr Tim Jordan is also a Senior Lecturer and he has a joint appointment with the Department of Digital Humanities where he will be responsible for the MA Digital Culture and Society. Tim was previously a Reader in Sociology at the Open University. Tim will be teaching his option Internet culture this term. Tim has researched extensively on the effect of Internet technologies on the role of culture in popular protest and social movements; other interests include hacking, hacktivism, power in cyberspace and the nature of online politics.
Job Vacancy: Temporary Lecturer in Culture, Media and Creative Industries
As a result of successful ESRC research fellowship funding by Dr Christina Scharff and subsequent buy-out, we are seeking a temporary lecturer for one year to carry out and communicate world-leading research in the field of CMCI, and to teach on our successful MA Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) and PhD programmes.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 09 February 2011.
CMCI is very happy to congratulate our latest PhD graduate success. Jonathan Gander’s thesis is entitled ‘Performing Music Production: Creating Music Product’ and was supervised by Andy Pratt. Jonathan already has a job as Senior Lecturer Strategy, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Kingston University.
