On 5 November 2009, in the Czech Republic, CMCI Lecturer Dr. Harvey G. Cohen delivered a lecture entitled “Duke Ellington In His Own Words,” which previewed the main themes from his forthcoming book: Duke Ellington’s America (University of Chicago Press, 2010).

CMCI played host to two of the pioneers in arts-based interventions in business, at a workshop organised by Dr Nick Wilson. Alastair Creamer and Ollie Lloyd, having set up creative consultancy ‘Creamer and Lloyd’ in 2006, now act as ‘navigators’ and ‘translators’ between the worlds of business and the arts.

Following her presentation at the recent CMCI animation symposium, Dr Hye-Kyung gave a talk at the Cultural Technology symposium in Seoul on 3 November 2009. The symposium was organised by KAIST (Korea Advanced Institution of Science and Technology) and the theme was Internet, Society and Humanity.

CMCI’s new professor Andy Pratt is certainly keeping both busy and productive: he reports two more publications and a keynote conference paper. The publications are: “Cultural Economy” and “Critical Realism/Critical Realist Geographies,” both in the International Encylopedia of Human Geography. As for the conference, Andy gave a keynote paper in Leipzig at an International Conference on “Creative Industries – Governance der Metropolregion” im Rathaus der Stadt Leipzig.
