Alumni
Virginia Woolf (née Stephen) in 1902, by G.C. Beresford. National Portrait Gallery, London. We are keen to keep in touch with former students of the Department, of all categories and vintages. The Greek Play, and the associated reception after the Friday matinee, is the most obvious annual event. The invitation and booking form can be found on the College's Alumni website, and the Classics webpages host an archive of past Play productions. But we would be delighted to see you also at one or another of the regular and occasional public lectures that we and the Centre for Hellenic Studies sponsor through the year.
The College's Alumni association - King's College London Association (KCLA) - which has more than 100,000 members, from former staff and students of King's and the colleges with which it has merged. Department staff have contributed components to the College's annual Alumni Weekend over the last few years, and hope to do more of the same in future.
Did you know that Virginia Woolf was a classical alumna of King's? She took classes in Greek, Latin, History and German, given in the King's College Department for Ladies, from 1897 to 1902. For part of this time, she was taught by the then Professor of Classical Literature, George Warr, whom she refers to in her correspondence as 'my beloved Warr'.
