Examinations and submission of coursework

You can find submission and examination dates here. Below you will find information on examinations and how to submit coursework in the English Department. If you are taking a module based in another department, please follow their dates and submission arrangements.

Handing in coursework

Please go to the Department Office to hand in coursework - or another room as notified.
  • For each piece of coursework you must hand in two hard copies and submit one electronic copy via Blackboard. Both the hardcopies and the electronic copy must be submitted by the deadline.
  • Complete a coversheet for both hard copies of your coursework and include the coversheet as page 1 of the electronic submission.
  • Put your candidate number on the cover sheets and on each page of your coursework, but NOT your name. To ensure your work is marked anonymously you are issued a new candidate number each year. Your candidate number is available to you on OneSpace.
  • Ensure you have included a wordcount
  • Check that your coursework includes a bibliography and complete references
  • For queries about plagiarism or style guides, please see the advice pages

Submitting via Blackboard

For all coursework, in addition to the two hard copies submitted to the Department Office, an electronic copy must be submitted via Blackboard by the submission deadline.
Instructions on how to submit via blackboard are attached at the bottom of this page

Examinations

Written examinations are taken during the examination period after the semester in which the teaching for the module ends. There are three examination periods: January, May and August. There are two types of written examination; 'Unseen Exam Papers' and 'Prior Disclosure Exam Papers'.
The Prior Disclosure Exam Papers will be distributed by email to the students in the penultimate week of each semester. You can then prepare your answers to the questions in your own time.On the day of the examination you will not be allowed to bring any books, notes, or other written material into the examination room. A fresh copy of the exam paper will be provided for you in the examination room.
Further Examination information, including the Timetable is provided by the Examination Office.

Study Abroad Students

Submission of end of semester coursework:
Study Abroad Students, staying at Kings for semester 1 ONLY may hand in their coursework to the Department Office before they leave in December. Or they may post their coursework to the department. If you are posting your work, you must ensure it arrives in time for the deadline and keep a record of posting. Many students post their work by FEDEX. You must also submit a copy via Blackboard

Please post to:
English Department Office
Kings College London

Alternative assessment for modules with a January exam:
If you take a module in the department, which has a written examination element, and you are at King’s for semester 1 only, you will be given alternative coursework assessment.
If you are staying for both semesters, you will be expected to return to Kings in January to sit the written examinations in January and hand in your coursework to the Department Office, during w/c January 11, as described above.
