French Play 2007-2008
New Wave Gone Wilde
The production of  Salomé by Oscar Wilde took place in June 2008. Salomé was originally written in Paris By Oscar Wilde, in French. It recounts the biblical story of Salome who won the head of John the Baptist from her step-father the Herode, the King of Judea, by performing the dance of the seven veils. In an inspirational adaption, Salomé now takes place at the centre of the eighties new wave movement. More information can be found

New social/study space for students!
In collaboration with other departments and programmes based in the East Wing - German, Comparative Literature and European Studies - the French Department has bid successfully for new spaces for staff and students. These include a new dedicated study and social space for graduates, a new social space for undergraduates, an office for postdoctoral researchers and an office for the French lecteurs/lectrices. Work is underway to furnish the spaces and to install wireless connections and computers in the spaces for staff and graduate students.
