The Honor of Wallingford, c.1066-1330

Research

The research examines the structure of English local society in the middle ages from the perspective of the Honor of Wallingford, an entity made up of a collection of estates in the Thames valley area of southern England. It is a study of the Honor from its formation after the Norman Conquest to the beginning of the fourteenth century, a crucial period in the development of the English gentry and one which saw their importance in political society increase significantly. The research looks at the structure and privileges of the Honor, as well as the social, political, military and cultural position of its knightly tenants.

Educational and Professional Background

Christopher took his BA and MA degrees in History, at King’s College London.
