Rydon Fellowship

Each year the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies offers a Rydon Fellowship in Australian Politics and Political History. The fellowship is named in honour of the distinguished Australian political scientist, Emeritus Professor Joan Rydon (1924-2008).
This fellowship is tenable at the Menzies Centre for one term and preference is given to:
(a) scholars who have recently completed a doctorate and have a contract to convert their thesis into a book; and
(b) scholars who are engaged in collaborative research with Menzies Centre staff.
Remuneration is £5,000. Fellows will normally be based in London during the term of their tenure, which will occur at some time between October 2009 and May 2010. They will be entitled to office space and facilities, use of a computer with web access, and a King’s College London Library card. They will, in turn, be expected to contribute to the academic life of the Centre by participating in research seminars and other Centre events and, near the completion of their tenure, by presenting a seminar in the Centre’s series on their project. They might also, with the agreement of relevant Centre staff, contribute the Centre’s teaching as a guest lecturer/tutor and/or organise a symposium, workshop of conference in their research area.
All Rydon Fellows need to demonstrate in their application that the work they propose to complete is consistent with the Menzies Centre’s Research Goals.
There is no application form. Proposals should include:
(a) a covering letter that contains the name of ONE academic referee who can comment on both applicant and proposal (It is the applicant’s responsibility to arrange for the reference to be sent directly to the Head by the due date);
(b) a brief (maximum two-page) CV setting out the applicant’s qualifications, relevant experience and publications; and
(c) a brief (maximum two-page) proposal setting out the aims, scope, methodology and proposed outcomes of the research, and explaining its relationship to the Centre’s own Research Goals.
