The MA Portuguese Studies welcomes students interested in all areas in which members of staff teach and research and strives to provide a flexible programme of study reflective both the department’s research specializations and our students’ study interests. We would anticipate that most students interested in the MA would have a first degree in Lusophone literature or history, however, we are happy to admit students with a variety of academic backgrounds.
The objective of the degree is to establish a programme of study which enables students to follow their interests and meet their personal needs while at the same time constituting an intellectually coherent approach to an area of study which can be pursued at an advanced level. The programme also provides training in basic theoretical concepts and research skills. The department provides a supportive, intimate working environment ensuring that the special needs and interests of each student are catered to and developed within the programme framework.

The Portuguese Studies MA is taught by:

Mr AbdoolKarim Vakil
Professor Francisco Bethencourt
Professor Patrick Chabal
Dr Juliet Perkins
Professor David Treece
