International links
The King's Department has strong links with the philosophy departments at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at Cornell University and is developing collaborative arrangements with the philosophy departments at King's other partner universities Hong Kong University, Monash University and the National University of Singapore.
Zach Abrahams from Cornell to King's
In conjunction with the Cornell department King's runs the Norman Malcolm Fellowship. This pays for a King's research student to spend a semester at Cornell every other year, and for a Cornell student to come to King's in the intervening years. Zach Abrahams who is doing a PhD at Cornell in metaphysics and the philosophy of language will be spending this academic year at King's on the Norman Malcolm Fellowship.
Michael Campbell to Singapore and Monash
Our PhD student Michael Campbell has been awarded a King's Partnership grant of £1500 to visit the National University of Singapore and Monash University in the autumn semester of 2009.
Siu-Fan Lee to Hong Kong and Monash
In 2008/09, one of our recent PhD graduates, Siu-Fan Lee, was awarded a King's Partnership grant to travel to Hong Kong and Monash Universities. She presented seminars in Hong Kong and Monash and had the opportunity to meet a number of philosophers in her field while visiting these Departments.
Tyron Goldschmidt to Chapel Hill
In 2008/09 the UNC department offered a one-year studentship for a King's PhD student to visit Chapel Hill. This was awarded to Tyron Goldschmidt.
Thomas Raleigh to Cornell
In 2008/09 Thomas Raleigh, one of our final-year PhD students, spent the Spring Semester in Cornell on the Norman Malcolm Fellowship.
Chris Cowie to Chapel Hill
In 2008, King's made funds available for a short visit to Chapel Hill by Chris Cowie, one of our MPhilStud students, who was awarded £1500 to spend a month there. (See p10 of the May 2008 issue of Comment magazine, pdf, 1.17MB.)
