An introduction to the LLM transcript
Professor Paul Matthews, City of London Coroner:
I consider that London is the most exciting place to be practising law. The centre of legal London is down on the Strand right by King’s College so we are in the best possible place to get an interchange of ideas between academic and practising lawyers.
Professor Aileen McColgan, Academic & Barrister with Matrix Chambers:
One of the benefits of practice is that when I teach I can bring real life experience of how things operate in the judicial system and I can bring that back into the classroom.
Professor Paul Matthews:
All the biggest law firms are here. All the best lawyers all the biggest cases are fought here and that means that you have the opportunity for the practising lawyers also to teach the students- something that really doesn’t happen anywhere else in the United Kingdom.
David Garvey, King’s LLM Graduate:
The links that you can make while being a student at King’s will really help you in the future.
Dr Alexander Türk, Senior Lecturer & Director LLM Programme:
What I like about teaching at King’s College London is that you have really small classes so you get to know your students
Georgia Hajitheodosi, King’s LLM Graduate:
The professors are really approachable. Everybody who comes here is in the same boat so you’ll find that they’re all be eager to get to know you and to help out in any way.
Professor Aileen McColgan:
Students can visit the courts sometimes if there’s something particularly exciting happening in a House of Lords case. Classes can be taken along so there’s the ability to get really involved with the law
David Garvey:
I’ve come out with a lot of clearer focus on what areas I want to go into, what I enjoy, what I get the most out of in law and there’s so much of it that I love now that I’ve got to be grateful to King’s for.
