ELSA WTO Moot

ELSA WTO moot logo King’s College London is assembling a team for the ELSA WTO Moot Court Competition. In 2010, students from 80 law schools worldwide participated. King’s has an excellent record in the moot, winning the UK National Rounds in 2006 and making the semi-finals of the Final Oral Round in Geneva. Most recently, the 2010 team were the Runners-up of the European Regional Round in Leuven, Belgium, won Best Complainant Memorial in the Regional Round, and came in 8th place overall in the Final Oral Round in Santo Domingo.

We are seeking to build on and improve this record. Therefore, we are currently looking for four members of the WTO Moot team.

The WTO Moot is a simulated hearing in the World Trade Organization dispute settlement system. Competitor teams represent both the Complainant and Respondent parties to the case by presenting oral submissions in front of a panel.

The problem was released on 1 September and written memorials are due on 19 January 2011. The problem can be found at the ELSA Moot Court Competition website.

The European Regional Rounds are in March. The top four teams in each of the two European Rounds (held either in Vilnius, Lithuania or Cluj-Napoca, Romania in March 2011) qualify for the Final Oral Round, which is the international round. In 2010/11, the Final Oral Round will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, and Evian, France. The Grand Final Round is judged by at least one current or former WTO Appellate Body Member, with the other panellists being eminent scholars or practitioners.
