The Willem C. Vis Moot in Vienna
As one of the most prestigious moot court competitions in the world, the Willem C. Vis Moot is a unique opportunity for law students to enhance their written and oral advocacy skills, as well as their knowledge of international sales law and the law and practice involved in international dispute resolution. It enables them to compete in these areas before high-calibre arbitration panels in the environment of a serious intellectual and personal challenge.

Involving law students from over 200 universities as well as practitioners and renowned scholars from both civil and common law jurisdictions, the competition revolves around a hypothetical case dealing with procedural and substantive issues. In the first stage, each team submits written memoranda representing both sides to the dispute. In the second stage, the teams plead orally both sides of the case during the six-day competition in Vienna. The teams plead before panels of arbitrators comprised of experts in the relevant substantive and procedural laws.

In the 2009 competition, KCL’s team reached the semi-final round, finishing in third place out of 228 universities, as well as winning several other awards.
