Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA
10 places for elective onlyThe Hopkins will only accept 10 KCL students per academic year, so students are selected on their personal statement and if necessary, interview. However, success at this stage does not guarantee that the Hopkins will offer you a place.
The registration fee is waived for KCL students and Johns Hopkins provides health insurance for our students upon registration.
A list of electives can be found on the Johns Hopkins' web site. You are advised to be as specific as possible in your choices of speciality, eg if you wish to apply for an elective in paediatrics or medicine specify the sub-specialities in which you are interested. Emergency Medicine is no longer available to visiting students.
Students may only apply for electives based at the Hopkins and not at other hospitals or the other centres, except the elective in Ambulatory Care in Internal Medicine with Dr Marc Shiffman.
Students may not apply for lottery electives.
Students are asked to provide a copy of their transcript with their application. These are available from the Medical Registry. If you have transferred from another institution you will also need to submit a transcript from your former institution.
Please also submit an application for accommodation by the November deadline as this will be forwarded to the Hopkins at the same time.
The Hopkins will notify students of their applications as soon as possible but sometimes students do not have a response until June. We have asked them to let all students know by the end of May. Should you wish to contact the Hopkins direct the telephone number is 00 1 410 614 4320, or via email to Emma Sullens - Visiting Medical Student Coordinator: vismed@jhmi.edu
