Sheila O’Connor gives talk at The Royal Society of Medicine
Sheila O’Connor commenced her BSc in Midwifery at King’s College London, Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery in September 2006. Sheila was an invited speaker at The Royal Society of Medicine, London UK on 22 November 2007 at a meeting entitled “Weight matters – addressing obesity in pregnancy and beyond”. This prestigious meeting was organised by the Maternity & Newborn Forum and other speakers sharing the panel with Sheila were Mr TG Teoh, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, St Mary’s Hospital London; Dr Tim Lobstein, Director Childhood Obesity Programme, International Association for the Study of Obesity; Mr Paul Sacher, National Obesity Forum, Director of MEND.
Sheila’s paper was called “Food for thought: are maternity care professionals meeting the needs of obese pregnant women?” The paper was based on her BSc Midwifery Research Dissertation undertaken during the summer of 2007. Sheila’s research was supervised by Dr Gillian Aston, King’s College London, Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery.
