EWMA (European Wound Management Association)
EWMA (European Wound Management Association) is an organisation that exists to promote education and research in wound care. One of its functions is to identify high quality wound healing modules and programmes across Europe. This is achieved via an endorsement process of modules and short courses that demonstrates excellence through peer review.
The leg ulcer management course and wound debridement course run by Jenny Bentley, Senior Lecturer, Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery, had previously been endorsed by EWMA in 2004. In April 2008, the entire range of wound care modules and study days met EWMA’s criteria for endorsement. This includes the modules named above, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and also the tissue viability module, leg ulcer study days and wound care study days. EWMA has granted approval in principle for all wound care modules, and full approval will be given when student evaluations have been submitted.
Zena Moore, Chair of the EWMA Education Committee, carried out the peer review for King’s College and wrote “This course has been well planned and should provide a valuable and clinical relevant learning experience for health professionals interested in wound management. EWMA is pleased to grant this course Approval in Principal. King’s College London is a well recognised college. There are excellent teaching and resource facilities available to facilitate the successful completion of the module”.
