July 2008 NNRU and RCN publish report

July 08: National Nursing Research Unit and Royal College of Nursing publish 'The impact of organisation and management factors on infection control in hospitals: a scoping review'

This rapid scoping review sponsored by the RCN sought to identify evidence about organisational and management factors affecting infection control in general hospital settings. The review identifies organisational characteristics that should be considered 'risk factors' for infection including high patient turnover, staff turnover, weak clinical leadership at all levels and low staff morale. As with risks at patient and procedure levels they cannot always be eliminated or totally avoided, but appropriate assessment will allow targeting of action to protect patients.
