Thomson Scientifics 2007 Impact Factors (released on Monday 22 June 2009) show another improved rating for the International Journal of Nursing Studies (IJNS), which is edited by Ian Norman and Peter Griffiths, two leading nursing Professors at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery, King’s College London.
Now at 2.31 the IJNS’ impact factor confirms its position as the highest impact general nursing journal in the world for the second consecutive year.
The IJNS is the only non-specialist nursing journal in the Thomson nursing list to achieve an impact factor of above 2 and has maintained its position as number 2, exceeded only by a very specialized North American journal, Birth-Issues in Perinatal Care, in the overall nursing list of 60 journals.
Professor Norman said: “The IJNS, first published in 1963, was one of the first academic nursing journals to be established. Its editorial office moved to King’s College London a decade ago under Professor Dame Jenifer Wilson-Barnett, former Head of the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery.
“Over the past five years Peter Griffiths and I, together with our excellent international team of editors, editorial board members and peer reviewers, have sought to ensure that the IJNS publishes research of the very highest quality which informs the work of professional nurses and midwives internationally with resulting benefits for patients. I am delighted to be associated with a journal with such a good reputation and which has now risen to international preeminence.”
Associate Dean for Education and External Affairs Professor Alison While is also an editor of the IJNS, and Head of School Professor Anne Marie Rafferty is a member of the editorial board.
