King’s midwives attend ceremony at House of Lords

iolanthe Students from the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery attended an awards ceremony at the House of Lords recently to be presented with their Iolanthe Midwifery Trust Student Awards.

The two midwifery students, Lauren Chandler and Adele Phillips, received their awards from Baroness Cumberlege at the event, which was attended by MPs, guests from the Royal College of Midwives, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the King’s Fund among other organisations.
The Iolanthe Trust exists to promote and improve the care of mothers, babies and families through awarding grants and fellowships in support of midwifery education, practice and research. With her bursary, Adele spent a month in Tamil Nadu, South India during 2008, experiencing hospital and community midwifery, while Lauren Chandler attended the International Confederation of Midwives Congress, Glasgow, to present her some of her research findings.
