Inaugural Nursing Summer School 2009 – APPLY NOW

girl library This summer, the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery is offering a unique and unprecedented opportunity to sophomore and junior year nursing students from all over the world.
We are inviting students to participate in a three week Summer School programme in the heart of London delivered by leading academics at a world class university.

Developed around the theme of ‘Historical and Comparative Nursing’, participants in the programme will gain an enhanced understanding of current UK nursing practice and policy – including new developments across different settings, the history of nursing and healthcare within London and differences between UK healthcare and abroad.

Innovative teaching and learning

Delivered by experienced staff many of whom are world leaders in their field, one third of the programme will be classroom-based at King’s College London and two thirds will be spent ‘in the field’.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit exciting locations relevant to the history of nursing and modern healthcare. Visits to locations such as Embley Park in Hampshire, a former home of Florence Nightingale, museums and other historical attractions will be part of the programme.

Free time will be allotted for students to experience the cultural richness of London with its countless theatres, cafes, live music venues, cinemas, street markets, festivals, sports arenas and clubs. Attractions such as the Houses of Parliament, Hyde Park, the London Eye, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Borough Market and the Tower of London are all within easy reach of students’ central London accommodation.

“This programme offers a great opportunity for students to increase their understanding of the history of nursing and associated policy together with a contemporary view of nursing,” said Professor Alison While, Associate Dean (Education & External Affairs) at the School. “London offers much healthcare history and the School was the world’s first professional school of nursing – providing an ideal combination for this short summer programme.”

The Summer School package includes single en-suite accommodation in King’s halls of residence.
