The International Journal of Nursing Studies (IJNS), whose editorial office is based in the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s College London, has been ranked as the top academic nursing journal in the world, according to the Thomson-Reuters Impact Factors for 2010, released today (Wednesday 29 June 2011).

The Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Helen McCutcheon as its new Head of School.
Professor McCutcheon currently holds the position of Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of South Australia.
The first findings from research addressing the associations between nurse staffing and patient safety and quality of care were presented at a Nightingale Seminar on Wednesday 25 May.
The Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s College London premiered a performance of ‘A Nightingale Sang’ at London’s Southbank Centre on Friday 13 May.
The concert, part of Southbank Centre’s Chorus! weekend, which focused on the relationship between the voice and well-being, is a composition by the School’s composer in residence, acclaimed Irish composer, John Browne.
In honour of International Day of the Midwife (IDM) on Thursday 5 May, the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) released the report 'The Socio-economic Value of the Midwife,' which highlights the important role of midwives during pregnancy and childbirth. The report confirms that investing in midwives and midwife-led care is central to delivering high quality maternity care.
Significant funding has been awarded for a new research project looking at how to help patients from Black, South Asian and diverse socio-economic populations move on from breast cancer treatment, which is being carried out by the UK’s leading breast cancer support charity.

The Complete University Guide 2012 today (Monday 18 April) announced that the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s is, again, the only university in London to be ranked in the top ten British universities for nursing.

The National Nursing Research Unit (NNRU) at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s College London welcomes the government’s recent announcement of its health visitor programme and appoints a new Director, Dr Jill Maben, to lead new research in this area.
Professor Alison Metcalfe joined the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s College London on 1 February 2011 as the new Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Health Care Research.

Dr Jill Maben, Director of the National Nursing Research Unit (NNRU) based at the School, has commented on the opening of the Pembury Hospital in Kent, the first single room hospital of its kind in England.
