Burdett Institute of Gastrointestinal Nursing

Burdett Institute Launched in January 2005, the Burdett Institute of Gastrointestinal Nursing aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people with GI disorders by promoting excellence in GI nursing education, research and practice.
  
The Institute is partnered with:
 
  • King's College London (The Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery) - a university which is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, learning and understanding in the service of society.
  • Burdett Trust for Nursing - which aims to improve care for patients through nursing and targets its grants at projects that are nurse-led to make significant improvement in the patient care environment.
  • St Mark's Hospital - an international multidisciplinary centre of excellence for the care of people with intestinal and colorectal disorders.
The Burdette Institute offers both an MSc and BSc programme, standalone courses, Masterclasses and study days in GI nursing coupled with an active research programme.

The launch of the UK’s first institute devoted to Gastrointestinal nursing was marked by a reception at the House of Lords on 14th January 2005. The event was kindly hosted by Baroness Pitkeathley (a patient representative) and attended by many past and present Consultants, patients, and consumer representatives.
