Workforce Research Group
We are a cross-School group researching human resource and related service organisation issues within nursing and healthcare generally. A key focus is on drivers for workforce and professional change and the impact of such developments on clinical service provision in different organisational settings. We also examine the challenges and implications of workforce-related issues for staff themselves, patients and carers, education and training providers, professional regulators and NHS organisations. Our research takes a London, wider UK and international, particularly European, focus – and explores workforce issues from a variety of disciplinary viewpoints. It also includes the work of the Department of Health-funded National Nursing Research Unit.
Main Aims
Effective and efficient healthcare delivery is wholly dependent upon the quality, capacity and motivation of its workforce. Research in the School aims to support this contribution of the nursing and wider healthcare workforce to quality service provision. Another key aspect of our work is to help set the research agenda and influence policy around nursing and health human resources (please see below for related pdf article to download - "Health care workforce research: identifying the agenda").
