Selection Days
All shortlisted midwifery applicants are invited to attend a Selection Day, normally held between December and April, before offers are made. Selection Days for provide the opportunity for applicants to meet School staff and students and ensure they have a sound understanding of the demands of the programme. Midwifery selection days include presentations and course details by staff; tests in literacy and numeracy (see below); discussion groups; and individual interviews by academic and / or clinical staff.
Also, midwifery applicants are asked to speak to a pregnant woman about her experience of pregnancy for 5 minutes. This is to test interactional skills with this client group.

Literacy test
Midwifery applicants will be asked to write an essay under exam conditions about a a pre-selected midwifery topic. In order to research and prepare for the essay, candidates are given access to the library before the Selection Day. The writing time is 50 minutes.
Special notes
Midwives are involved in caring for vulnerable members of society and all students must have enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosures. Prior to commencing any nursing programme, students must also have occupational health clearance.
All full-time undergraduates who are entering the College for the first time on a course of two or more years are guaranteed the offer of one year in either a College or an Intercollegiate residence in central London.
